Life is a continuous balancing act, and I believe it is fair to say that we have all felt out off-balance more often than we care to admit. The good news is, we do always recover. And embracing that truth—and the fact that we have a choice as to what extent we recover—is empowering.
The greatest gift that we can give ourselves is to create the time to concentrate on our own internal needs before we take the time to improve ourselves.
If you were raised to be humble, to always help others, you may struggle with this. I know that I have.
We were raised to be the best of ourselves through service to others, which I loved and repeated to my own children. Yet the piece of the puzzle that was missing in my upbringing was the wisdom (dare I say “permission”?) that the giver must be able to refill their own ‘giving tank’ or they will disappear in the process.
Replenishing your tank, my friend, is far from being selfish. It is the law of nature that without a proper ecosystem, everything will perish.
How is there enough hours in the day, or energy to meet all the requirements of life?
I’ve come to appreciate that the practice of finding the answer is a lifelong endeavor. The challenges actually help us strengthen our creative problem solving muscles. It is important to know that the neuron connections in the brain become stronger by repetition of thought—both positive or negative. We actually can control the paths of our thinking.
How powerful is that?
Time and experiences help us to mature. We become more self-reliant and confident along the way. It is when we are aware of ourselves that we are able to give the best of ourselves, and pay forward all that flows through us.
Our life and our thoughts are powerfully intertwined; a perfect ecosystem that brings us balance.
